Amoke mi owon, in life you were many things to me: my love, friend, confident and fierce defendant. You were to me a gentle and lithe doe that grazed on rolling hills and drank only from the clearest springs. You were a lodestone that gave its light in the day as brightly as it did in the night. Meek in disposition, intense in conviction: you lived in this world, but you never possessed it. You touched the world (as the man said,) like a tangent touches a circle - touching it ever so slightly but never crossing it. You used all things cheerfully but fanned nothing. You liked all things beautiful but aspired only to the excellent. Owning, you were never owned. You lived a quiet and virtuous life, and eventually slipped by like a true stranger and a pilgrim. Omo iyeru Okin olofa mojo, omo olalomi. Ijakadi katakiti l’oro Offa. May the wind that took you away return to take the pain away. May the door that swiveled for a year now turn one more time and bring you back with it - or at least continue to bring fresh memories of you. We miss you today. We've missed you everyday.
