OYEBANKE Ibidunni Adeniyi (Nee Onaolapo)
JANUARY 16, 1975 – JUNE 10, 2012
Oyebanke (Banke) was born at the Military Hospital in Kaduna,
Nigeria, to Mr Ayo Onaolapo and Mrs Rolayo Onaolapo. The third of six
children, Banke attended primary school in Lagos, and had subsequent
secondary education at the Federal Government Girls Collage Bakori,
Katsina State. She then went to the University of Ilorin, Kwara State,
where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural
Sciences. She later worked at Eko International Bank, in Lagos.
Banke moved to the United States in 2004 to be with her husband,
Adewale Adeniyi, to whom she got married on the 10th of August,1999.
They had two girls, Similoluwa and Anike. Banke was all about family.
She was a dedicated mother and a devoted wife. Banke made personal
and professional sacrifi ces to build the kind of home she believed the
Lord would want. In the USA, she sought outlets for her creative instincts.
She studied to perfect her design and tailoring skills while
experimenting with jewelry creation, window treatment, interior design and
decorations. She worked, studied hard, and ended up in the interior
decoration and design arena. Banke helped to beautify many homes in
and around Maryland while endearing herself to many-a-customers with
her trademark meekness and gentleness.
Banke and her family attended and served the Lord in
New Covenant Church, Hyattsville, Maryland, where she was at
different times in the Choir, Publications, and Children’s ministry. She opened
her home up for the study of the Word of God each Monday and Sunday.
AdeBank-One, as she was fondly called by her husband was somewhat of a bible
connoisseur. She was especially fond of stories of the Old Testament
Saints from whose lives she drew many inspirations. She had a lovely
singing voice, but it was her love for Jesus, meekness, and gentleness
of spirit that endeared her to all who knew her. She was a wonderful
minister of God in character and a rare breed indeed. True and genuine,
she possessed the beauty of both the outward and inward kind.
Banke loved people. She went out of her way to help others and
make them comfortable. She had a large heart. Simple and deep,
unassuming yet wise, her life is a study in the strength that lies in meekness.
In the words of one her friends, Banke was “simply uncomplicated”. She
would want nothing more today than for us all to be reminded of things
eternal, and remember that only the things we do for Christ will last
forever. We celebrate Banke’s life with great hope and assurance because
she trusted and loved the God of grace and mercy with whom she now
rests. Banke’s life inspires us you to set our hearts on the pilgrimage, to
believe in Jesus Christ the author of life and to walk with God.
Banke is survived by husband (Wale), daughters (Similoluwa and Anike),
parents, sisters (Abimbola, Shade and Bisola), brothers (Jide and Deji),
a grandparent, several uncles and aunts, a loving Church family
and several friends.
